The "Matrix" films were full of action and special effects, but in the end, left us with too much flash and not enough heart.
"The Lord of the Rings" was heavy on pathos, but also heavy on groups of costumed people walking around.
Guys like me grew up on "Star Wars," and we realize now that it can't be duplicated, remastered or continued. There has to be something out there we can latch onto that doesn't prey on nostalgia, suck away our brains or our patience. What's a grown-up to do?

It isn't science fiction, it isn't fantasy, and it definitely isn't about glittery vampires. But it has sold 27 million copies in more than 40 countries, and the film version has me all glittery about the next instal
